What Is The Difference Between A Turtle And A Tortoise
Camila Farah
Because aquatic turtles spend time in the water a turtle shell is flatter for streamlined swimming.
Turtles and tortoises are two kinds of reptiles. The eggs from a turtle are fairly delicate and cowhide like like the eggs created by different reptiles. They belong to the order testudinidae. Female tortoises dive tunnels in which they lay somewhere in the range of 2 to 12 eggs.
Unlike most sea turtles which take to land only when they are laying eggs tortoises don t have much to do with water other than drinking it and occasionally bathing in it. Shells differ between different species of turtles. Tortoises aren t equipped for water and live completely on land. What is the difference between turtle and tortoise.
The major difference between the two is that tortoises dwell on land while turtles live in the water some or nearly all of the time. Turtles and tortoises have different types of feet and shells. Both the species possess shells. The most important thing to remember about tortoises is that they are exclusively land creatures.

They have more streamlined and flattered shells. The bodies of tortoises and turtles are both shielded by a shell the upper part of which is called carapace with the lower portion called a plastron. Perhaps the most critical difference between tortoise and turtle is that tortoises are terrestrial animals whilst turtles tend to live in water or spend much or most of their time in water. Turtle hatchlings remain in their home alone for 90 120 days.
