What Is The Difference Between A Biome And An Ecosystem
Camila Farah
A biome occupies a particular scale while ecosystems can be defined on multiple levels of space and time folding into one another as perspective broadens to encompass the planet as a whole.
The biome is a higher category comprising a set of ecosystems. A biome is also influenced by latitude which an ecosystem is independent of. An ecosystem is smaller than a biome because a biome is distributed throughout the earth. But an ecosystem is not.
An ecosystem is smaller in comparision to a biome as a biome can be widely distributed all through the earth. Unlike an ecosystem a biome is strongly influenced by its physical factors such as climatic conditions such as snow temperature rainfall etc. The main difference between biome and ecosystem is that biome represents a broader geographical area whereas ecosystem represents a small collection of species that live in a small geographical area. The key difference between ecosystem and biome is a biome has to do with the abiotic environment climate territory geology while an ecosystem involves the biotic element animals organisms flora.
An ecosystem is not influenced by the latitude whereas a biome is influenced. Tropical rainforests grasslands and deserts are examples of biomes. A biome is a large biotic unit that consists of vegetation and animal life that has developed in response to abiotic factors of precipitation temperature and latitude. An ecosystem is all the plants animals and environmental factors that interact within a certain area.
