In genetics gregor mendel discovered the principal of dominance. In codominance the offspring receive a combination of both parent genes whereas in incomplete dominance neither one of the parent genes expresses. What is the difference between incomplete dominance and codominance. A flower showing codominance will have patches of red and white instead of a uniformly pink flower.
Incomplete dominance is the condition when neither of the alleles is dominant rather combine and display a new trait by mixing of the two alleles. Incomplete dominance signifies the condition in which a dominant allele does not completely mask the effects of a recessive allele. Codominance is when the two parent phenotypes are expressed together in the offspring. The main difference between codominance and incomplete dominance is that in codominance a cross between individuals with two different phenotypes produces an offspring with a third phenotype showing both parental phenotypes together whereas in incomplete dominance a cross between individuals with two different phenotypes produces an offspring with a third phenotype which is a blend of the two parental phenotypes.
In codominance both the alleles present on a gene are expressed in the phenotype. The key difference between codominance and incomplete dominance is based on the expression of the traits in the offspring. An example is a white flower and a red flower producing pink flowers. In incomplete dominance neither of both the allele is dominant and give a new trait.
