All living cells must undergo a process referred to as cellular respiration. The by product of this process produces carbon dioxide along with atp the energy currency of the cells. Aerobic glycolysis occurs in oxygen rich environments whereas anaerobic glycolysis occurs in oxygen lack environments. Aerobic respiration as the name suggests is the process of producing the energy required by cells using oxygen.
It produces a by product of energy carbon dioxide and lactic acid. Anaerobic respiration is typically referred to as fermentation and no oxygen is used in the process. The fundamental difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration is the usage of oxygen in the process of cellular respiration. Anaerobic respiration is similar to aerobic respiration except the process happens without the presence of oxygen.
The cells use glucose and oxygen to produce carbon dioxide water and energy. Anaerobic respiration is the process of breaking down glucose without using oxygen but rather catalysts. Although some cells may engage in just one type of respiration most cells use both types depending on an organism s needs. Aerobic respiration occurs in the cytoplasm to mitochondria while anaerobic respiration occurs in the cytoplasm only. On the other hand anaerobic bacteria yeast cells prokaryotes and muscle cells perform anaerobic respiration.
