What Happens If You Put Sugar In A Gas Tank
Olivia Luz
If you hit a bump and some sugar gets suspended the fuel filter will catch a small amount.
This obstruction prevents the standard level of fuel from being consumed. You ll get surges of power when enough fuel does arrive for combustion then lulls in acceleration when the clogs reduce the flow of gasoline. The sugar that will eventually end up in the fuel lines will burn with the fuel and you will notice a different smell coming out from the exhaust system. If you are just mischievous and does not really want to destroy the engine use sugar or any other sweet sticky liquid.
If people poured a bag of sugar into the gas tank the crystals would all sink to the bottom of the tank similar to sand. The gas only had less than a teaspoon of sugar per 15 gallons. If you add a lot of sugar to the tank it will just sink to the bottom reducing the amount of gas that can be filled in the tank. It will most definitely not make your engine to seize.
The problem with this rumor is that it simply isn t true. This famous prank has stemmed from the major fallacy that sugar combines with gasoline to generate a thick glutinous fluid that clogs the fuel transmission lines. Many people believe that the sugar dissolves into the gasoline after being poured into the tank only to caramelize upon reaching the engine and in effect forcing the engine to be completely replaced. As it turns out sugar doesn t dissolve in gasoline.

Sugar is heavier than gas so it sinks to the bottom of the gas tank and decreases the amount of fuel you can add to the auto. So a tank full of gas just does not have enough solvent to dissolve the amount of sugar that may cause a problem. Fuel rail pressure regulator fuel pump fuel lines fuel filter injectors and possibly the gas tank. When there is sugar in a car s gas tank the granules begin to clog the fuel intake lines.
The more sugar in the gas tank the likelier there will be a clog as well as the likelier a clog would be severe resulting in the symptoms mentioned above. Putting sugar in a gas tank is kinda the equivalent of putting sand in a gas tank. Sugar in a gas tank is an urban legend and it will clog up the fuel filter just like other sticky sweet liquids such as honey molasses waffle syrup pancake syrup and similar things.
