The baby s smile is a response to the dream.
They do not have an emotional trigger but are usually nature s way for a baby to begin practising different skills. Experts say it s similar to other actions a baby will do such as sucking. Older children and adults often smile laugh talk or even scream while in the rem stage. In fact reflex smiles may happen while the baby is in his mother s womb from 25 to 27 weeks of gestation.
Babies smile during their sleep due to rapid eye movement rem stage of sleep a response to auditory stimulation due to brain development and recognition of sounds dreams and even a reflection of baby s personality. Reflexive smiles while sleeping are supposed to be innate gestures. It s also believed that babies will smile in their sleep as a survival instinct.
