Although the colors of the flag did not originally hold a specific meaning many people have since suggested the significance of the colors. White signifies purity and innocence red hardiness valour and blue the color of the chief the broad band above the stripes signifies vigilance perseverance justice. The flag is the only current flag in the world modeled after and resembling the american flag as liberia is the only nation in the world that was founded colonized established and controlled by settlers who were free people of color and former slaves from the united states and the caribbean aided and supported by the american colonization society beginning in 1822.
