We just got back from keynoting at thrive conference and after talking all about how we got to where we are this topic was on my brain. What did you want to be when you grew up.
I ended up with a degree in chemistry and when i graduated people would ask me whether i was going to teach. My black uncle once pulled me aside after and said bro that doesn t pay well at all 2 2. I think we can put a pretty solid check beside that desire since one can t really guarantee that path in life though i did spend childhood teen years thinking about job options too. And it makes sense because many of the overlapping careers like nurse are solid choices for a first or even second career.
You have to understand that i was a kid in the 60s so i wanted to do things girls just didn t couldn t do. How did what you wanted to be as a child influence your career choice as an adult. I kid you not. I mainly remember wanting to grow up get married have children and run a household. Perhaps you wanted to be an astronaut having been inspired by the moon landings or maybe you hoped to become a footballer spurred on by a sporting triumph. Maybe on some level the things that interest us as children do come with us into adulthood.
